My Mama’s Advice

Written by Sandy Blaser, Healing Rain to the Nations

All through my years of growing up, my Mama was a Sunday School Teacher.  My brother Bill and I always got the lesson taught to us first and then Mama seen to it that we memorized the scriptures.  This was also passed on to the next generation.  When my Children were growing up they spent a lot of time with Grandma and Grandpa down on the Farm.  So Grandma taught them the scriptures also.

My children are all grown now and I’m enjoying my Silver haired days with my own Grand-Babies, but even to this day I can still hear Mama’s beautiful words of wisdom ring out…

As a child everything I knew about God’s Word was summed up in these verses:

“Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself”.  (Galatians 5:14)

And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. (Ephesians 4:32)

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.”  (Luke 10:27)

Psalm 23 Ye thou I walk through the valley of the shadow of death….(memorized the whole chapter)

Lord’s Prayer….Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.   And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.  (Matt 6:9-13)

And last but certainly not least….”For God so loved the world, that HE gave His only begotten Son, that who so ever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.  (John 3:16)

Parents remember…Children do absorb your words very quickly.  So these are certainly good words of wisdom to instill into the heart at a very young age.  I often thank God for my Mama taking the initiative to encourage me with God’s Word and establish that solid foundation that I needed for life.  Not only did Momma teach me to pray and hide the Word in my heart, but it’s over the years of my own life’s trials that I have come to realize the true value of God’s Holy Word! I believe this world would be a much better place if every Momma taught their children to base their very life on the wisdom of Our Heavenly Father!  But do keep this in mind…As godly Mom’s you can instill the Word of God into the mind of a child…but it is God himself that must draw them into a personal relationship with Him.  And sometimes it’s a long journey from the mind to the heart of an individual!  So keep on Praying!!

I can honestly say, over the years I have kept The Word close to my heart.  For I learned at a young age that God’s Word is powerful, sharper than a doubled edged sword!  The Word has instructed and advised, brought encouragement, hope, comfort & peace, led me to accepting eternal Salvation through Jesus Christ and having the hope of Glory, etc.

No, you can’t do much about the length of your life here on earth, but I’ve learned that you certainly can do something about its width and depth by following this bit of advice….”Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” (Joshua 1:8)

I dedicate this beautiful song below to the one who lead me to the heart of Jesus…my sweet Mother who resides in Heaven…Until we meet again….I love you Mommie!
